What cars exactly? The list!

I've decided (after much introspection and weeks of pondering of course :-) to build the cars that I loved as a child, and still love. A lot of these cars come from movies and TV series. And most are not the "standard" stuff... so it kind of makes them intriguing to build. I envision one day showcasing these cars in our movie room / bar.

The goal is to build one car per year (yes, I really don't have that much free time).

Some of these cars seem quite basic, in terms of detail in the plastic and number of parts, so it will just be all that more challenging to build up the necessary detail.

Rekindling an old flame

This is a blog about scale model building, and it may even be entertaining for the readers at times. I'm insanely detail oriented (obsessive-compulsive?) and I've built 1:72 and 1:144 airplanes throughout my early years. After a 15-year hiatus from modeling, I'm getting back into the hobby.

This time I'll be building cars. I plan to document all my builds here. And who knows, maybe this will also inspire someone else to go that extra step to make a scale model as lifelike as possible. Hard to explain my attraction to this hobby. Maybe it's the chance to re-create something amazing - something that makes you think of the real thing every time you look at it - but without the size and cost of the life-sized object.

I'll open the blog with this quote:

You'll come to learn a great deal if you study the Insignificant in depth.

-Odysseas Elytis (Nobel Prize 1979)

I can attest to that. For example, I didn't think much about 1958 Ford Thunderbirds, until I wanted to know what color to paint the engine block. Even after a week of research it was hard to get a straight answer.. so I kept studying and searching... Old car manuals and Ford Ads from the 50's, car restoration forums, etc. I guess part of the fun of scale modeling comes from learning more about what you're trying to recreate. These little 1:24 scale objects can be a great experience to build, and each of them bring you on a very exciting trip through history. So.. Let's go!
